Movie was amazing a must see !! True facts about the case and how corporations use the media to distort what is truly going on. People read the facts and look at the pictures then start making assumptions. This lady yes old slipped coffee on her self like many do every day does not mean she or anyone else should have to suffer from 3rd degree burns. That movie goes over tort reforms and the dangers of ingorance of voters read the fine print people then maybe we wouldn't have corporations running our government.

Paul, the jurors for this case felt the same as you when the trial started. After hearing the evidence, they were the ones who choose the figure of $2.7million for punitive damages.(remember, those high figures rarely remain in effect. They are usually cut down by the courts, by further appeals, out of court settlements, etc. Try reading the actual case evidence above; or here:

I believe McDonald's no longer serves coffee (which I have never been able to drink!) in styrofoam cups. (The cups were part of the problem, which McDonald's was fully aware of.) Tort reform has benefited the corporations, who were behind the public misinformation about the need for tort reform. Now, the corporations no longer worry about being sued for malfeasance, product liability, etc. McDonald's still serves their coffee, and tea, as hot as ever.As does many other establishments. I know if you drink the tea without removing the cover and allowing it to cool for 20+ minutes, you will suffer 3rd degree burns of your mouth, throat and esophagus!

Her nephew, the driver, has publicly stated that his car did not have any cup holders. He parked the car after leaving the drive-thru window. Four minutes had passed when the coffee spilled onto her. She still suffered 3rd degree burns, multiple skin grafts and was fully disabled for two years. Prior to the spill, she was working - yes, at age 79! There was also a problem with the styrofoam cup - it was known to melt at the temperature that McDonald's served their coffee. The probable cause of her burns was that the cover was holding the cup together, when it was removed, the cup fell apart. The full-thickness burns occurred within 3 seconds - remember, that was 4 minutes after the coffee was handed out of the drive-thru window.

One can only hope that you will be extremely healthy, yet required, under your new law, to enter a nursing home when you reach age 65.

Evidently senior people are reckless and have a tendency to hurt themselves. I work at Walmart, and just last week an elderly lady fell over a flourescent CAUTION sign, she was so old, she didn't even see it.. One can only hope the government passes a mandatory Nursing Home law for age 65+ peoples
